Noches de Richmond Videos: BLIP TV
Search Archives - James Fortune
I have a real treat coming your way as I’m about ready to search my video archives. One particular piece of footage is all I want and it’s James Fortune’s photographic exhibition in Georgetown. All my footage is logged, but I have so much of it that searching becomes tedious sometimes. We were at Alla Roger’s Art Gallery in 2006 for a showing of some of James Fortune’s most famous photos. This footage is interesting not only because of the photos, but the conversations taking place in the background. I’ve been anxious to edit this video lately because I want to see the footage again and before we take a trip to Georgetown in October. Why should James and I be the only ones to view this footage? Well, we’ve decided to let you see it and it will be at our Noches de Richmond channel at Blip TV in about 1 week. The trip from Richmond to D.C. takes about an hour and a half so I’ll make sure I get a little video and some rock and roll history to share with our readers.
I’d love to promote some of my Google and Amazon advertisers on the site, but there seems to be some restrictions on what I can do. Perhaps a little more research can enlighten me a little. I mention this because of my association with James Fortune. We’re friends and we talk about galleries, photographs, rock and roll history, copyright infringement…lots of issues. Our main topic this summer was about a rock and roll gallery who at times shows up in the Google ads on the site. I’d love to talk about the gallery and what they are doing to help get James Fortune’s photographs out to collectors of limited edition prints. I’ll see what I can do about getting you the story on this gallery.

Fruit Flies and Music
Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons is my chance to take a break to listen to some great music. I’ll get whatever needs to be done during the week and Saturday mornings so I won’t feel guilty about not spending time on other chores.
I would like to get my albums out and listen to my old music, but this is not always so easy these days. What I do is just go to my website at classicrockvids.com. I don’t even have to look at the videos if I want to do other things. I just pick a video and click it and I have good speakers and a woofer for my computer audio so this enhances my listening pleasure. I listen to Santana, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Birds, well, you get the gist. Sure, I have to change the music often to play other tunes, but it is so easy here at the site. One advantage of ‘old rock and roll’ is that the songs were really long back then.
After a while, I take a journey over to WCLM Internet Radio on Friday evenings, six to ten. Saturday afternoons, after ‘rock and roll’ I listen to WHAP Internet Radio, two to six. These time slots are for the Latin Jazz Show with El Guiro, Mike LeBron, and Sweet Lou (Luis Hidalgo). I am fond of Latin Jazz, too!
How do fruit flies and music relate? Haven’t you seen the flies hovering over the vegetables and fruits? You’ll even see them in the best stores. The flies come in your house with the fruit and vegetables you buy. Whether it be eggs or the flies, I don’t know. We like to get rid of these things naturally, because we don’t want to be around the chemicals in some products. You got it…I listen to this music while these tiny flies are waiting to enter jars of white vinegar with their saran wrap tops. What a miracle white vinegar is; it really does get rid of these tiny pests!

Where’s the Blog?
Some of you have probably figured out that this is a WordPress blog. You might also wonder where our blog went to. We had a visible blog until about 4 weeks ago and then something happened…we accidentally deleted our own blog, but it did show up elsewhere on the site as we found out about a week later.
We had help with making changes on the site, but our help disappeared to another planet. These changes involved going in and re-doing some of the code. We searched WordPress for help, but you really have to be a computer genius, so it seems, especially trying to read the wording written by developers. One other thing we learned is that not all software developers even write a manual about a program that they have just written. Their answer is that the software is self explanatory. (Yea, to them!)
I had to do something to find my blog, because of search engine (SEO) ranking for the site. When I located my blog it was on all kinds of pages on the site and not in one location. Above this article you will see our Blog Archives. This is our initial attempt at making these posts available for you to read.
We have some new software EXPERT WORDPRESS ; hopefully this will help us in getting our blog back where it belongs. Even if it doesn’t this is what we will use for all our future WordPress blogs as it makes life much easier. If you go to the David James Gallery on our site you will see this software at the top of the page. Why don’t you click the link and read the page information to see if this software will make your life easier, too?

Dr. John Harler Wows Crowd
Rick Flair, E.B. King & Kennedy
After our Noches de Richmond Series videotaped Elvis, I left with a nagging feeling that I had videotaped a local Elvis impersonator in the past. Somewhere in my mind this memory was lodged, but it was not springing forth at the moment. After a while, I forgot about it.
About two days later I started getting flashbacks to Elvis, John Kennedy and Rick Flair. It didn’t take me long to figure out that years ago a movie about John Kennedy was filmed in Richmond. As I remember, the motorcade scene was shot on Semmes Ave. near the Overnight building. People around Virginia rented their vintage cars to the movie company and these cars were kept in the service garage of either the Jefferson Hotel or the Holiday Inn on Franklin Street. I can’t remember which hotel, but the stars were staying at the Holiday Inn. I remember that the person heading up the garage was E.B. King an Elvis impersonator.
I had met E.B. through my friend Steve Duncan, who was an Elvis Presley style piano player. I also remember Steve being a state champion pool player. Between games he would sit down and bang some keys. I was in the hotel lounge one evening when everyone was there to relax. (I think Blair Brown could have been in this movie, because my memory sees her in the lounge.) I do not remember a stage, but I did see E.B. King doing his damned good Elvis act. He was a pro for sure! Watching his show, I suddenly see Rick Flair come into the room with an arm full of ladies. He caused quite a stir!
Since I was videotaping back then I need to look way back into my archives to see if I did any videotaping of E.B. and some of the movie crew. I just wander if I have some video of Rick Flair. Previous to shooting on dv, there were other formats. I have over 100 tapes in other formats and finding particular footage may take a while.
